The creation of the ASSA Foundation was predicated on the need for a means of generating significant funding for the not-for-profit and charitable objectives of the ASSA.
The ASSA Foundation was chartered in the State of Virginia in 2002 and operates as a not-for-profit and tax-exempt organization as defined in section 501c3 of the IRS Code. The Foundation is set up as a subsidiary organization of the parent club, with four of the five sitting officers of the ASSA serving as the officers and directors of the Foundation.
The Foundation provides charitable grants and funding to rescue operations, scholarships, health research, legislation education, and other related causes. During the past few years the Foundation has made more than $100,000 in distributions to the charitable purposes of the ASSA. Your gift to the Foundation is tax deductible to the extent provided by law. Making a donation to the Foundation is easy. Click here for the donation form and send your check to the Foundation treasurer at the address indicated. All gifts are acknowledged by letter from the Foundation Treasurer.
The Foundation recognizes significant contributions in amounts of $500 and $1000 respectively with a beautiful silver or gold Sheltie Guardian Angel pin. The pins were custom designed and crafted by Virginia Perry Gardiner and are simply beautiful! What a wonderful way to support the work of the Foundation and the ASSA!
Don’t forget to check with your employer when making a donation to see if they have a matching gifts program. Many do and will match your donation 1:1 or 2:1 and in some cases even 3:1! This is a great way to have your gift provide even greater benefit. Some employers may require donor or verification forms or a letter. Contact theFoundation treasurer if you need tax identification numbers or additional information that may be required by your employer.
There are other ways to donate to the Foundation as well. These include providing for a donation to the Foundation in your will or naming the Foundation as a beneficiary of an insurance policy. These are not difficult to do but they require that you consult your legal and financial counsel representing the interests of your estate so that they are done correctly. Again, theFoundation treasurer can provide documentation upon request to assist you.
Message for the Foundation Treasurer, 2007
What has the Foundation done?
I get this question periodically and I would like to share with you my response.
During the past few years, with the support of people like you, the Foundation has been able to make more than $100,000 in distributions to the charitable purposes of the ASSA in the areas of health research, rescue, scholarship, legislation education and other charitable causes needing assistance.
As you know, I post the acknowledgement of the Guardian Angel contributors to list as they occur and they are also posted to the ASSA Website. The receipt of and recognition of significant gifts and the awarding of the lovely silver and gold pins is something special.
However, these messages are in no way intended to overshadow the generosity of the many many donors who make smaller and regular donations to the Foundation as well; and, since the beginning of the Foundation's activities, these individuals and organizations are recognized annually in both the Handbook and the Bulletin Board. Furthermore, if not for the many donors who have contributed to the Foundation over the past several years, the significant amount of money that has been directed toward the charitable purposes of the ASSA would not have been possible.
Thanks to all.
